Excellent editorial at the Daily Star yesterday on the killing of Shah A. M. S. Kibria and the recent bombings preceeding that.

Zafar Shobhan was quite eloquent in putting together the thoughts that is crossing (I sure hope it is crossing) many of our minds.
The lack of any concrete effort from the Government on everything that has been going on definitly does question what exactly does the Government have in mind? There is a mindset going on that because they are the Government and the great Ministers, whatever they say has to be considered as the divine truth. How dare we ever question anything that they say or claim? They are after all the heads of our country!
Well it seems that we are not questioning. We the so called educated general jonota of this country have become so complacent, so fearful, so non chalant that we just can't be bothered with all these 'dirty' politics that goes around. That is why, every bombing does not horrify us, every action that quells our cultural practices (banning jatra, banning cultural programs at the shaheed minar before ekushe february) do not make us sit straight and say "wait a minute, you can't do that!"
Of course they can. The Government can do whatever they want, the extremists can do whatever they want, who is there to stop them? Forget stopping them, who is there to even raise a question? I had read once that every nation deserves the government it gets. I don't know if it is a universal truth. But we definitly do.
We deserve a Government who can't be bothered to take one productive step to stop the spread of terrorism, to stop the spread of corruption, to stop the wave of violence, to stop crushing our culture. We deserve them because we the so called educated mass, the literate jonota are the ones who have played a pivotal role in making the Government who and what they are.
We have given them a free reign. Moger mulluk has been created by us. And untill we take a stance, we stop voting for them, stop taking all their excuses, all ther claims, all their bull shit without a question, without a sound of protest, the Moger mulluk will be here to stay.
